University School of Medicine (IUSOM) – Michigan Clinical Campus in Michigan, USA. Duties include to
provide Clinical Training to Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) Degree and to Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical
Cardiology (PGDCC) Programs Students from Worldwide IUSOM Campuses.
(ii) September 2003 - Present: Director of Medical Education and Medical Superintendent at MIOT
Hospitals, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, USA.

DR. THANIKGAIVASAN'S OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS DURING HIS CAREER IN CHENNAI PORT
TRUST HOSPITAL, CHENNAI, INDIA
1. Founded the Speciality of General Surgery on Sound Surgical Principles and improved the techniques
of Surgeries and introduced many Advanced Surgical procedures.
2. Founded the Speciality of Cardio Vascular and Thoracic Surgery in Chennai Port Trust Hospital in
1986 which was the only one of its kind among the Hospitals of Major Ports in India.
All types of Closed & Open Heart Surgeries, Lung, Oseophageal, and Chest Wall Surgeries were routinely
performed.
Chennai Port Trust Hospital was a Referral Centre for Cardio Thoracic Surgery for other Port Hospitals.
3. A Pathology Museum was started by Dr. Thanikgaivasan with a good number of specimens.
4. Chennai Port Trust Hospital’s Ultra-Modern Operating Theatre Department, which houses four
Operating Theatre suites was solely designed and equipped by Dr. Thanikgaivasan.
5. The Chennai Port Medical services were reorganised and streamlined to provide prompt and proper
health care to the patients.
