Both International University School of Medicine (IUSOM)
Foundation and its daughter entity, namely, IUSOM
International Medical Consultant Inc. were founded on
September 16, 2005 in Scenic Bonaire, Caribbean
Netherlands (Dutch Caribbean) (Formerly Netherlands
Antilles), The Netherlands, European Union (EU).
Subsequently, both organizations were registered on
September 20, 2005 at the office of Chamber of Commerce
and Industry in Bonaire.

On March 5, 2009, the Government of Bonaire Island
formally issued a License to IUSOM allowing, recognizing,
and approving IUSOM to establish a Medical Education and
Training Institute as well as to set up and to operate Medical
and Chemical Research Laboratories in Bonaire; its copy is
also displayed on the bottom of this web page.
In addition, on May 18, 2010, the Government of Bonaire
Island issued another formal Permission and Approval Letter
to International University School of Medicine (IUSOM)
Foundation; its copy is also displayed on the bottom of this
web page.
On October 10, 2010, Formerly Netherlands Antilles ceased
to exist; and consequently Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba
(BES) Islands collectively were integrated more closely to the
Kingdom of The Netherlands in European Union (EU).
Subsequently, on October 13, 2010, on the behalf of The
Netherlands Government in The Hague, The Netherlands,
Hon. Minister Ab Klink (Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport)
(MIN-VWS) along with Hon. State Secretary Madam Marja
van Bijsterveldt-Vliegenthart (Ministry of Education, Culture
and Science) (MIN-OCW) signed and issued a letter to
International University School of Medicine (IUSOM)
Foundation stating that “after October 10, 2010, the Dutch
Government is prepared to extend a Statement in the context
of CHARTER to Medical Schools (including IUSOM) on their
educational activities and that Medical Schools (including
IUSOM) are free to continue educational activities in their
present form, which were established in BES (Bonaire, Sint
Eustatius and Saba) Islands, Dutch Caribbean (Formerly

Likewise, on October 12, 2010, on the behalf of the State
Secretary for Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science,
The Hague, The Netherlands, Dr. L.J. Roborgh, Director-
General for Higher Education, Vocational Education, Science,
and Emancipation, wrote a letter to ECFMG (Educational
Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) belonging to
FAIMER (Foundation for Advancement of International
Medical Education and Research) in Philadelphia, U.S.A.,
informing that the Government of The Netherlands is
prepared TO EXTEND THE CHARTERS previously granted
to Medical Schools (including IUSOM) on BES (Bonaire, Sint
Eustatius and Saba) by Antillean Government; to view this

On march 31, 2011, the AVICENNA Secretariat at the World
Federation for Medical Education (WFME) announced
that International University School of Medicine (IUSOM) now
had fulfilled all the requirements and IUSOM would be
included in the AVICENNA Directory for Medicine
(Formerly W.H.O. (World Health Organization) World
Directory of Medical Schools); for viewing the copy of the

It should be brought into the attention of the visitors of this
website by stating that US Federation for Advancement of
International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) and
World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) merged on
April 4, 2014 their International Medical Education Directory
(IMED) and AVICENNA World Directory for Medicine,
respectively (please visit: http://wfme.org/documents/various-
documents/93-world-directory-of-medical-schools-launch/file
or http://www.faimer.org/announcements/wdoms-press-
release-apr42014.pdf), announcing the launch of the World
Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) which is now
available at http://www.wdoms.org/ and IMED & Avicenna
Directory will be discontinued in 2015. This new WDOMS was
developed in collaboration with World Health Organization
(W.H.O.).
In addition, on April 7, 2015 FAIMER repeated that as
previously announced, FAIMER expects IMED and the IMED
Subscription Service to be discontinued by mid-2015. At that
time, the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) will
become the definitive list of medical schools in the world.
Likewise, W.H.O. announced that the World Health
Organization’s World Directory of Medical Schools is no
longer incorporated in the Avicenna Directory, but has been
transferred to the new World Directory of Medical Schools
(WDOMS); and the new World Directory (i.e., WDOMS) is a
joint venture of the World Federation for Medical Education
(WFME) and the Foundation for Advancement of
International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER).
Later on, FAIMER posted on December 17, 2015 that, as
previously announced, FAIMER expects IMED and the IMED
Subscription Service to be discontinued by early 2016. At
that time, the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS)
will become the definitive list of medical schools in the world.
Eventually, on or about 1st June 2016, FAIMER’s
International Medical Education Directory (IMED) also
vanished from on-line data system because now WHO’s
World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) has replaced
both FAIMER’s IMED & WFME’s Avicenna directory.
Consequently, both FAIMER’s IMED as well WFME’s
Avicenna Directory of Medical Schools has now become
obsolete and both medical directories are not available
anymore to the public. And International University School of
Medicine (IUSOM) is listed in WHO’s WDOMS as https:
//search.wdoms.org/home/schooldetail/F0002436 . Thus
since June 2016, a medical student officially enrolled in, or a
graduate of, a medical school that is located in any part of
the entire World, listed in the WHO’s WDOMS, is in principle
eligible to take United States Medical Licensing Examination
(USMLE), Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination
(MCCEE), and similar other Medical Licensure Examinations
being frequently held by other various organizations in the
rest of the world as well for instance, the US Educational
Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) now
uses WDOMS in determining the eligibility of its applicants
for USMLE and for ECFMG Certification; and of course other
prerequisites are also needed to be met with.
In this context, sponsors (e.g., US Educational Commission
for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), Danish Health and
Medicines Authority, Australian Medical Council Limited
(AMCL), Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination
(MCCEE), UK General Medical Council (GMC) and Korean
Institute of Medical Education and Evaluation (KIMEE)) of the
World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) work with
WFME and FAIMER in the development of the directory, and
contribute to the decision-making process (http://www.wdoms.
org/sponsors/). Likewise, now Medical Council of New
Zealand (MCNZ) regards the primary medical qualifications
listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools as
acceptable for the purpose of registration or to sit in the
NZREX Clinical Exam (visit: https://www.mcnz.org.nz/get-
registered/how-to-register/acceptable-primary-medical-
qualifications/). Moreover, in case of medical registration for
practicing the profession of medicine in Canada, for instance
in Manitoba Province, an International Medical Graduate
(IMG), for the purpose of eligibility for sitting the MCCEE,
must have completed all of the requirements for the final
medical diploma in a university outside of Canada or the
United States which is listed in either the International
Medical Education Directory (IMED) or the World Health
Organization's World Directory of Medical Schools
(WDOMS). Furthermore, with respect to applying for an
MCCEE, the MCC (Medical Council of Canada) defines an
“International Medical Graduate (IMG)” as a physician whose
basic medical degree was conferred by a medical school not
accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian
Medical Schools or the U.S. Liaison Committee on Medical
Education, but listed in the World Directory of Medical
Schools (WDOMS) published by the World Health
Organization (W.H.O.) or in the on-line directory published
by the Foundation for the Advancement of International
Medical Education and Research (FAIMER), entitled

By mid-2015, the US Educational Commission for Foreign
Medical Graduates (ECFMG) started to use World Directory
of Medical Schools (WDOMS) in determining the eligibility of
its applicants for the United States Medical Licensing
Examination (USMLE) and for ECFMG Certification. ECFMG
began to use the WDOMS when it was fully operational and
the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical
Education and Research (FAIMER) discontinued its IMED.

Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) which is now
available at http://www.wdoms.org/ and IMED & Avicenna
Directory will be discontinued in 2015. This new WDOMS was
developed in collaboration with World Health Organization
(W.H.O.).
In addition, on April 7, 2015 FAIMER repeated that as
previously announced, FAIMER expects IMED and the IMED
Subscription Service to be discontinued by mid-2015. At that
time, the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) will
become the definitive list of medical schools in the world.
Likewise, W.H.O. announced that the World Health
Organization’s World Directory of Medical Schools is no
longer incorporated in the Avicenna Directory, but has been
transferred to the new World Directory of Medical Schools
(WDOMS); and the new World Directory (i.e., WDOMS) is a
joint venture of the World Federation for Medical Education
(WFME) and the Foundation for Advancement of
International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER).
Later on, FAIMER posted on December 17, 2015 that, as
previously announced, FAIMER expects IMED and the IMED
Subscription Service to be discontinued by early 2016. At
that time, the World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS)
will become the definitive list of medical schools in the world.
Eventually, on or about 1st June 2016, FAIMER’s
International Medical Education Directory (IMED) also
vanished from on-line data system because now WHO’s
World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) has replaced
both FAIMER’s IMED & WFME’s Avicenna directory.
Consequently, both FAIMER’s IMED as well WFME’s
Avicenna Directory of Medical Schools has now become
obsolete and both medical directories are not available
anymore to the public. And International University School of
Medicine (IUSOM) is listed in WHO’s WDOMS as https:
//search.wdoms.org/home/schooldetail/F0002436 . Thus
since June 2016, a medical student officially enrolled in, or a
graduate of, a medical school that is located in any part of
the entire World, listed in the WHO’s WDOMS, is in principle
eligible to take United States Medical Licensing Examination
(USMLE), Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination
(MCCEE), and similar other Medical Licensure Examinations
being frequently held by other various organizations in the
rest of the world as well for instance, the US Educational
Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) now
uses WDOMS in determining the eligibility of its applicants
for USMLE and for ECFMG Certification; and of course other
prerequisites are also needed to be met with.
In this context, sponsors (e.g., US Educational Commission
for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG), Danish Health and
Medicines Authority, Australian Medical Council Limited
(AMCL), Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination
(MCCEE), UK General Medical Council (GMC) and Korean
Institute of Medical Education and Evaluation (KIMEE)) of the
World Directory of Medical Schools (WDOMS) work with
WFME and FAIMER in the development of the directory, and
contribute to the decision-making process (http://www.wdoms.
org/sponsors/). Likewise, now Medical Council of New
Zealand (MCNZ) regards the primary medical qualifications
listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools as
acceptable for the purpose of registration or to sit in the
NZREX Clinical Exam (visit: https://www.mcnz.org.nz/get-
registered/how-to-register/acceptable-primary-medical-
qualifications/). Moreover, in case of medical registration for
practicing the profession of medicine in Canada, for instance
in Manitoba Province, an International Medical Graduate
(IMG), for the purpose of eligibility for sitting the MCCEE,
must have completed all of the requirements for the final
medical diploma in a university outside of Canada or the
United States which is listed in either the International
Medical Education Directory (IMED) or the World Health
Organization's World Directory of Medical Schools
(WDOMS). Furthermore, with respect to applying for an
MCCEE, the MCC (Medical Council of Canada) defines an
“International Medical Graduate (IMG)” as a physician whose
basic medical degree was conferred by a medical school not
accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian
Medical Schools or the U.S. Liaison Committee on Medical
Education, but listed in the World Directory of Medical
Schools (WDOMS) published by the World Health
Organization (W.H.O.) or in the on-line directory published
by the Foundation for the Advancement of International
Medical Education and Research (FAIMER), entitled

By mid-2015, the US Educational Commission for Foreign
Medical Graduates (ECFMG) started to use World Directory
of Medical Schools (WDOMS) in determining the eligibility of
its applicants for the United States Medical Licensing
Examination (USMLE) and for ECFMG Certification. ECFMG
began to use the WDOMS when it was fully operational and
the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical
Education and Research (FAIMER) discontinued its IMED.
